Take responsibility for your own life including your thoughts, actions, inaction, fitness, health, happiness and sense of fulfillment.

I may have lost along the way, stumbled and fall but I am not broken. Regrets? Never. It's only a matter of learning from the experiences, good and bad, I came across with. What matters most is how I get up and face what lies ahead.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.

Hello December! Where are you Christmas?

It's the most wonderful time of the year, so they say. And it's officially Christmas in the Philippines, but mine has yet to come. I do not know if Christmas will ever be the same again, back when I used to celebrate it with my family.

I miss Christmas! I miss my family!

Where are you Christmas?
Why can't I find you?
Why have you gone away?
Where is the laughter,
You used to bring me?
Why can't I hear music play?

My world is changing
I'm rearranging
Does that mean Christmas changes too?

Where are you Christmas
Do you remember
The one you used to know
I'm not the same one
See what the time's done
Is that why you have let me go

Christmas is here
Everywhere, oh
Christmas is here
If you care, oh

If there is love in your heart and your mind
You will feel like Christmas all the time

I feel you Christmas
I know I've found you
You never fade away

The joy of Christmas
Stays here in silence
Fills each and every heart with love

Where are you Christmas
Fills your heart with love

Nasaan Ka, USB?

Feeling tired, down and alone then suddenly a very dear friend chatted with me in Facebook and apparently, he was feeling the same way too. So he sent me the link of a video of our friends arguing where the hell did they put their flash drive. I couldn't stop myself from laughing inside the office while watching the video. This really made my day!

To those who can't understand, sorry pero Ilocano po ang dialect na ginamit dito :) Just imagine na parating ganito ang eksena ng mga kaibigan ko who happens to be engaged in events/wedding coordination...

NO GIVING UP! The Concert

I've been away for quite some time now and for those who have read my previous blogs, they would know that I was busy rehearsing my choir for a charity concert. It has been a week ago since we staged our very first charity concert here at BJMP Laoag and yet the euphoria hasn't changed a bit. We have been receiving great feedback from various sectors outside and apparently several organizations want to sponsor a repeat concert.

WE are humbled by this once in a lifetime experience and we couldn't hold back the tears of joy from our eyes because all our efforts and sacrifices are nothing compared to the success and adulation we are experiencing now.

We couldn't thank enough the members of the Holy Spirit Academy of Laoag Batch '86 most especially Madam Chevylle V. FariƱas for conceptualizing this humble yet meaningful project, the Production and Creative Team for their patience and dedication and our very supportive and dynamic Warden for his selfless dedication to this project. Lastly, a BIG thank you to my colleagues for being with me through this journey and for sharing their talents for this charitable project. WE MADE IT!

True indeed that there are a lot of things that we had to give up but there are better things that we will never give up!

To God be the glory!

P.S. I will be posting photos of the concert soon...

My Love Is Your Love

One of my all-time favorite song. It gives me chills every time I hear it.

If I should die this very day
Don’t cry ‘cause on earth
We weren’t meant to stay
And no matter what the people say
I’ll be waiting for you
After the judgment day

'Cause your love is my love...

You worry and are troubled about many things, whereas only one thing is needed.

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, He entered a village and a woman called Martha welcomed him to her house. She had a sister named Mary who sat down at the Lord's feet to listen to his words. Martha, meanwhile, was busy with all the serving and finally she said, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the serving?" But the Lord answered, "Martha, Martha, you worry and are troubled about many things, whereas only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:38-42)

Photo from here.

The Gospel today teaches us about the source of true peace and happiness.  We sometimes worry and are troubled with so many things that we already forget to spare a minute of our time to  reflect and pray. With all that's been happening lately, let us not forget to talk to Him. As Padre Pio once said, "Pray, hope and do not worry." Prayer is not a one-way conversation. God speaks to us in prayer and we feel His presence in our midst. Prayer is not informing God about things He didn't know. It is made to humble man's heart, to inflame his faith and to testify that He is God, the maker of everything.

Pio

Today, we commemorate the Memorial of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, Priest.

"Oh, how precious time is! Blessed are those who know how to make good use of it. Oh, if only all could understand how precious time is, undoubtedly everyone would do his best to spend it in a praiseworthy manner!"

"The life of a Christian is nothing but a perpetual struggle against self; there is no flowering of the soul to the beauty of its perfection except at the price of pain."

"Pray, hope, and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer."

Saint Padre Pio, pray for us!

Quiet the day.

As we start another week, let us first take a moment and reflect on the Gospel today...

Peter approached Jesus and asked him,
"Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive? As many as seven times?"
Jesus answered, "I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times." (Mt 18:21-22)

Today, we can see in the Gospel, how Peter asks Jesus about a very concrete theme that is still to be found in the heart of many persons: he asks the question about the limit of forgiveness. The reply is that this limit simply does not exist. " I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times." (Mt 18:22) And to explain this reality, Jesus uses a parable. The king's question centers the theme of the parable: "Weren't you bound to have pity on your companion as I had pity on you?" (Mt 18:33)

Forgiveness is a gift, a grace flowing out of God's love and mercy. For Jesus' forgiveness has no limits, provided repentance is true and sincere. But it requires opening our heart to conversion, that is, do with others as God requests us to.

As St. Thomas Aquinas explains, "Man becomes God's debtor in two ways; first, by reason of favors received, secondly, by reason of sin committed: and just as thanksgiving or worship or the like regard the debt for favors received, so satisfaction regards the debt for sin committed."

Have a blessed and peaceful Sunday everyone!

Offer the best of yourself to others.

Image taken from http://enyo-marketing.com

I have been giving out all my best since we started rehearsing for our upcoming charity concert but I just realized now that some of my choir members have not been doing the same. My mentor once told me that in able to achieve a little perfection, you have to put your heart and soul in every aspect of what you do. And then I asked myself,  is it already too late for me to take out those whose hearts and souls are not into it? With only three weeks left of preparation, I think it's best that I just keep them and let everything go according to plan. Kaya ko pa namang magtiis.

My Inspiration

When you photograph people in colour you photograph their clothes.
But when you photograph people in B&W, you photograph their souls!  - Ted Grant

***

This is my very first attempt to do a B&W photo and it's the only B&W photo I have in my folio.
Honestly, I am not good at it and sadly, I did not spare more time practicing it
but hopefully, I will be able to master it!
This particular photo became my inspiration in venturing into photography.

I am a neophyte in this craft but I am trying to be good so that I could photograph more souls.

Keep faith in the potential goodness of mankind.

Yes, I've been away for almost three weeks now. Missed a lot of things especially here in the blogosphere. I spent my weekend reading previous blogs just to be updated. Ang dami na palang ganap.

Moving on with my ABC of Spirituality, I found this article about the 5 Things We Can Learn From Severus Snape in one of the blogs I follow which is somehow related to my post.

5 Things We Can Learn from Severus Snape

1. Our judgments about people are often wrong. In almost every book Harry and his friends suspect Snape is in on whatever evil is threatening them, all the more so after he kills Dumbledore. As it turns out he was on their side all along, and did more to protect and aid Harry than almost anyone else.

2. Rough exteriors are not the whole story. Admittedly, Snape is my favorite character in the Harry Potter series [so I was glad to see him vindicated when I read book 7]. But that isn't to say I find him to be a pleasant person, quite the opposite really. We learn some of why that is later on, but from beginning to end Snape is cold, short tempered, and at times rather cruel. Yet this exterior hides a person who dedicated his life to defeating the forces of evil.

3. Sometimes heroes are silent. At the moment of his death, the only person who ever knew how good Snape really was, was Dumbledore, who Snape had killed. He died as an enemy of all that is good in the world ofHarry Potter, and it was only after he could no longer be thanked that the true story was revealed - why he betrayed Voldemort, how he did the difficult thing no other wizard could have done and deceived the Dark Lord, how he gave his life selflessly for people who might never know what he had done for them.

4. True loyalty comes at great cost. Sure, we all want loyalty and put forth some effort to be loyal to others, but we rarely consider the cost. For Snape, loyalty to Dumbledore meant living a double life, sacrificing everything he held dear, and even killing Dumbledore when Dumbledore commanded him to. In the end we find out that he was never a traitor, but instead had played his part perfectly to the very end.

5. Love changes everything. Snape was originally a Death Eater, a true servant of Voldemort. We learn in these last chapters that what drove him to Dumbledore was love, love for Lilly Potter. He had loved Lilly since childhood, and though his personality and obsession with the dark arts had driven her away, he never stopped loving her.
When he learned that Voldemort was searching for the Potters, he went to Dumbledore in an effort to protect Lilly. When she died, he spent the rest of his life ensuring her son was safe. The redemption of Severus Snape was, like so much in Harry Potter, because of love. In the end his one request was to look into Harry's eyes, because he had his mother's eyes.

That's all folks!

Jump out of bed, it will energize your day.

Going back to my ABC of Spirituality.

Well, maaga akong gumising kanina kasi maaga akong natulog kagabi. At syempre, maaga din akong bumangon. Hanubah!

Natawa kasi ako dun sa post ni Mugen about The Baconator.

Friday, July 8, 2011

You're a firework!

I was at the office early today and tried to finish my daily report but I wasn't in the mood at all! I tried to read blogs that I follow, leave some comments and hopefully get some inspiration to start my day. I went on to watch videos in Youtube and was curious to watch Katy Perry's Firework. While I was watching the video, my boss suddenly came in...

Rcas: Xiany, ano na naman ba yan?
Kiko: Morning sir! Wala lang.
Rcas: Patingin nga. Mukhang maganda ah.
Kiko: Yung kanta sir o yung kumakanta.
Rcas: Pareho.
Kiko: Chos! Nagbibinata na naman si sir.
Rcas: May album na ba yan?
Kiko: Meron sir.

My boss, who has always listened to the music of Al Jarreau, Mike Francis and Rod Stewart, is beginning to like my kind of music. He has recently asked to copy my Il Divo, Philippine Madrigal Singers and Bukas Palad cds. Now, he wants me to download all the songs of Katy Perry. I wouldn't be surprised if he will later enjoy my Gaga cds and house music!

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting throught the wind
Wanting to start again

Do you know that there's still a chance for you
Cause there's a spark in you

Sometimes we really need a little push to ignite the fire within us! We can so much relate to this song! Iyan ang buhay LCJ!

If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

The world's longest...

Beijing, Jun 30 (PTI) The world''s longest cross-sea bridge, spanning 36.48 kilometers across the mouth of the Jiaozhou Bay in China''s eastern Shandong province, opened to traffic today, four years after construction started.
The bridge, connecting urban Qingdao with the city''s less-developed district of Huangdao, cost about 14.8 billion yuan (USD 2.3 billion).
Authorities expect the project to boost the development of an industrial zone in Huangdao and to facilitate the rise of foreign trade by increasing the port''s handling capacity, state-run Xinhua news agency said.
The business community have been complaining of the inconvenience of the current, less-efficient sea transport, whose operation is at the mercy of the weather.
Han Shouxin, deputy director of Qingdao''s traffic management committee, said the bridge will shorten the route between Huangdao and urban Qingdao by 30 km, cutting the travel time down from over 40 minutes to around 20 minutes.
Before the project''s completion, the Hangzhou Bay Bridge that spans across the bay of Hangzhou, in eastern Zhejiang province, was considered the world''s longest cross-sea bridge.
Qingdao officials today also announced the completion of a 9.47-kilometer-long undersea tunnel that runs parallel to the bridge. The construction of the tunnel, whose lowest part is located 81 metres below sea level, cost another 7 billion yuan.
The construction started in August 2007.
Engineers overcame huge difficulties in building the tunnel amid a complicated geological environment, said Zhou Fengjun, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
He said the project can now serve as a textbook for the country''s tunnel-construction projects, Xinhua reported. PTI KJV

In Moments of Solitude and Loneliness

Article | Rose Windale (http://www.healthzine.org/)

Are being in solitude and being lonely the same? When you say “I need some time alone”, what is it that you feel? Is it because you are experiencing dejection and loneliness? Loneliness is actually a state of aching, inner emptiness. Yes, being lonely can be painful. You feel alone and that there seems to be just nobody with you.

Being alone is different from being lonely, although they may go together. When you say “I am alone”, it means you’re experiencing physical separation. It has often been said that you can be alone and yet not feel lonely. The sad thing is when in your aloneness, you feel loneliness, too.

In your loneliness, you feel a spiritual, emotional and psychological separation from the rest. As you can imagine, this is more painful. Inward, you are empty and aching. You reach out for somebody, yet nobody is there. You cry out for company, but it’s beyond your control- you can’t have it.

Truly, such a circumstance can drive you out of your wits. We, as humans, are social beings. It is not only about the need to interact, but to connect. We need the warm and tender company of a friend or a partner, or family. Company which understands and accepts us the way we are.

Where we need not fear rejection despite showing our true colors. In the company of somebody you trust, you can experience the joy of letting be, of being yourself. Indeed, when you are blessed with such, you can enjoy happiness in the real sense. Happiness can be as simple as that- having a true friend or a loving partner.

Or having a warm and loving home. With such, you may even forget the need for extravagant material possessions. It’s because what maters most is unseen. It’s in the heart- connection with others, and fulfillment. But sometimes, people just can’t help being lonely. Circumstances may have been unkind and inauspicious situations happen.

Loneliness can then start creeping in, and worse, gnawing us inside. And so we feel less as persons. We feel worthless and unloved and uncared for. When this happens, what should you do- is it the end of the world? It doesn’t have to be. When your dejection is so compelling, you need a change of attitude.

Shift your perspective and turn loneliness into solitude. In solitude, you get to appreciate the company of yourself- you become your own best friend. Being in solitude also means being alone, but there is a different essence. In your aloneness, you feel inner fulfillment. You get to process your thoughts and emotions.

Sure you may be in pain, but you can choose to see the lessons from that pain. In moments of solitude, you can nourish your spirit. Solitary as you are, you now have time and space for growth. In the darkness of loneliness, light up the candle of solitude. And see what is in your heart.

Gather your strength and your senses, and strive to be a better, stronger person. You see, loneliness is not the end of the world if you turn it into solitude. Remember, in your solitude, you are by yourself, yet you are not alone. There is always somebody who will always be with you.

Find out who it is - in your solitude.

Explore each problem with the intent of improving the situation.

Been away in the blogosphere for almost a week 'cause I was busy practicing the participants for the quartet competition. I am so happy that they get better each day. I hope they will be able to make it.

Going back to my ABC of Spirituality.
Most of us tend to meddle with other people's business or concern that instead of improving the situation, we end up making it worse. Parang Face to Face lang sa TV5. Sabi nga, kung may problema, harapin mo face to face. Toinks! Still, I don't believe in the purpose of the program. You can not just let two arguing parties settle their differences at one sitting. What I believe is that healing takes time. It is a long process of soul searching. It takes courage and even sacrifice.

We may have diverse ways in exploring the problem but the most important thing is to find clear solutions. So the next time that we attempt to delve into something, think twice and make sure that we really are into making things better and not just like the sawsaweros and sawsaweras in the TV program who make both parties hate each other even more.
That's all folks!

Akihiro Sato

While browsing through my old files and listening to Gaga's 'Hair', I came across my photo set of Akihiro Sato and thought of re-posting it here. The photo shoot took place in Pampanga when Aki was just starting his career in the Philippines and I was also starting to enjoy photography. Thanks to my ex-best friend for allowing me to take photos of Aki during the shoot.

Coming soon: HAIR

Song of the Day: Jack Sparrow

I first bumped into this song while browsing a blog that I just recently followed. The beat is so cool and I just love the humor in the song. I lost count already how many times I played it since this morning.
Enjoy!

     Having spent more time with myself and God (had a Bible study this morning);
Having someone appreciate the same music you love listening to. (someone asked me to copy my Il Divo songs to her playlist)

It could have been a bad day (someone was bugging me at the office but I totally ignored him) but I decided to be happy. I hope you did the same thing today...

Addendum:
Just a coincidence, while having a break, a friend showed me a forwarded text from his friend:

Everyday is a chance to be happy - it's our choice how to be.

Commit yourself to daily discoveries of something new and uplifting.

Maam Slyvia: Uy gayyem, I have something for you...
Kiko: Hala maam, ang cute naman nito! How sweet of you!
Kiko: Naku maam, wala 'yun. Basta makakatulong ako, why not share! It's a God-given talent after all.
(Then enter Maam Sheila)

It was a very light conversation but I just realized that in our place where animosity, pride and malice are the norms, there are some people who still know how to appreciate the little things you are doing for them.

Forget the hate. I am here to share whatever I have so long as I can. I don't care if they get intimidated. I just hope they learn to understand that everyone was given their opportunity and this is my time to shine! Chos!

And oh, by the way I've discovered that I am beginning to enjoy writing and I'm loving it!
